Here are three experimental questions to answer:
1. Does hot water or cold water freeze faster? HOT
2. Does hot water or cold water boil faster? HOT
3. Does salt water freeze faster or slower than regular water? SLOWER
Questions/Items to then include in you blog posting for this activity:
1. Pictures of your experimental materials and setup.
| Water! |
| Hot/Cold water - Salt/Normal water |
| Freezer |
| Ice Cubes - cooling water |
| Stove and Pot - for boiling |
| Freezing! |
2. Your hypothesis to the questions posed.
I think that the hot water will boil faster than the cold water because it will take less time for the hot water's temperature to rise to 360 degrees
I think that the cold water will freeze faster than the hot water because it will take less time for the cold water's temperature to cool to 32 degrees.
I think that the salt water will take a longer time to freeze because salt lowers the freezing point of water, this is why we use salt on the roads in the winter.
3. Data in the form of a graph or table & 4. Show data of experiment repeated
| Column1 | Column2 | Column3 | Column4 | Column5 |
| hot/salt water | cold/reg. water | Results | ||
| Q1 Test1 | aprx. 1 hr | aprx. 2:45 hrs | Hot | |
| Q1 Test2 | aprx. 1 hr | aprx. 3 hrs | Hot | |
| Q2 Test1 | 3:04 min | 7:02 min | Hot | |
| Q2 Test2 | 2:49 min | 6:43 min | Hot | |
| Q3 Test1 | aprx. 5:30 hrs | aprx. 3 hrs | Reg. | |
| Q3 Test2 | aprx. 5 hrs | aprx. 2:45 hrs | Reg. | |
5. List your controlled variables for your experiment
-amount of heat applied to reach boiling point
-freezer is at a consistent temperature
-amount of water used
-amount of salt use for salt water
-temperature for col water
-temperature for hot water
6. Formulate a theory that answers the questions posed.
Hot water boils faster than cold water because it will take less time to increase the temperature to 360 degrees.
Hot water freezes faster than cold water because hot water has less gas particles in it. The freezing point is still the same but hot water is capable if cooling down much faster.
Salt water will take a longer time to freeze than regular water because the dissolved salt in the water decreases the freezing point.
7. Image of the atoms that make up water molecules.

| 2 Hydrogen and 1 Oxygen |
8. Video or animation that shows how water molecules are arranged in the three states of matter for water.

9. Describe the scientific method/process and how each step correlates to your own experiments.
1. Read the prompt question
2. Plan out the experiment and materials needed
3. Gather materials - Water, freezer, stove, pot, timer
4. Cunduct the experiments and record data found
5. Organize data to compare
6. Formulate an answer to the promt question
